Implementation PNRR Measures

AFAM Grand Tour Project

Italy has a vast tangible and intangible cultural heritage, which is highly differentiated locally. The project called “Grand Tour Afam,” GTA in its entirety, aims to activate new forms of collaboration, so that even abroad these realities are told and known.

The internationalization intervention of Afam institutions to promote their role abroad in the preservation and enhancement of Italian culture includes a schedule of initiatives focused on Italian creativity.

Each initiative, carried out in synergy between partner institutions in terms of complementarity, will enhance the centrality of the student and will be organized with the active participation of students, who are involved in programmatic decisions, in the conception and production of innovative content and protagonists of artistic productions open to the public.

In summary, the “Afam Grand Tour” aims at both local and global enhancement of Italian culture and artistic heritage conveyed by AFAMs not only by raising the profile of education to an international level , but also by enhancing their cultural and educational impact on future generations.

"Babylon: from Exotic to Eccentric" exhibition – 2024

IUAD Academy presents for the 2024 edition of Between Art and Fashion, the exhibition “Babylon: From Exotic to Eccentric,” a project supported by the European Union, the Ministry of University and Research and Italia Domani as part of the GTA Grand Tour Afam 2024/26.

The Babylon event is a fascinating journey through the evolution of twentieth-century fashion, exploring how a fascination with the exotic became an eccentric and revolutionary expression of style.

The traverse passes through an exhibition that combines art, history, and culture, a survey that dives into the influence of the Orient and other non-Western cultures on European and American fashion, highlighting moments of dialogue and creative fusion that have redefined contemporary aesthetics.

Tradition and innovation

“Babylon: From Exotic to Eccentric” is not just an exhibition, it is a manifesto of transformation, an invitation to travel through the infinite landscapes of personal expression and innovative design.

The exhibition was held at MUSAP in Naples June 25-29.

Accessories workshop "Babylon…With the Eyes of Guido"

The exhibition “Babylon: from exotic to eccentric” also serves as an essential starting point and educational fulcrum for the accessories design workshop entitled “Babylon: with Guido’s eyes,” in which students from the Triennial Fashion Design and Accessory Design majors walk the creative path “wearing” the eyes of the pantagruelic protagonist of 8 ½ , drawing inspiration from the icons of freedom and “diffuse form” that only “divergent and eccentric thinking” guarantees.

Indeed, the core of the proposed experience is the ability to reinterpret the cultural elements displayed in the exhibition into original and personal designs of fashion accessories (particularly small leather goods).

"Re Made in Italy" exhibition – 2025

The ReMade in Italy exhibition was created with the intention of enhancing the profound meaning of Italianness and reinterpreting the history of Italian fashion in a contemporary key through the thirty garments designed and made by our students.

In fact, we have collaborated with four illustrious national fashion archives: the Emilio Federico Schuberth Archives, the Associazione Amici di Rosa Genoni, the Associazione Germana Marucelli, the Nuovo Archivio Giorgini and the Mazzini Research Archives, which have made available valuable materials and inspirational sources for the students’ work.
