PROFESSIONAL FIGURE

FASHION DESIGNERS are creative people who are well informed about new trends and anything that “becomes fashion”. They are responsible for researching and conceiving ideas and they create trends by defining the lines of a collection in the sector of fabrics, clothing and fashion accessories. A collection is born from a pre-established plan agreed with the marketing office and the product office and from the collaboration of the fashion designer and the pattern maker to create the prototype. Designers can work for their own brand (stylists), or they can work for firms, studios or “style offices” as consultants and researchers (freelances).

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The job opportunities available include employment with firms and professional studios operating in this sector, or going freelance after learning how to combine creativity, business and an innovative insight into the Fashion System.
Long-standing relationships with leading firms in this sector allow the Accademia della Moda to channel its most talented students into these businesses

Genral content

The training course covers all phases of the creative and productive process of a fashion collection. By the end of the course, students will be able to define stylistic and creative features, research materials, and co-ordinate the production system and the distribution process of the fashion product.

Graphics

Studying anatomy is essential. By studying simple patterns, students will develop an eye for the proportions and the division of the human body, even in complex postures or movements. In other words they will become independent and free to draw any position that best highlights their creations.
By studying colour and applying a variety of colour techniques, students are able to use the most suitable colour for every creation and to choose the ideal shade and personalise their colour range.

History and Sociology of Fashion

At the Accademia della Moda the historical evolution of costume is studied by viewing it as the combination of a number of different elements: the continual interaction of history, creative ideas and economics; the relationships between changing tastes and the influence of scientific progress.

Professional Drawing

A fashion designer has to be aware of the latest fashion trends, primarily with respect to lines and colours. And as the first traces of a trend can be seen at fashion shows, the Accademia della Moda trains its students to study such shows and parades analytically by means of audiovisual aids as well as by organising field trips to the main national events of this sector in Milan and Florence.

Study of fabrics

A fashion creation might become a real and profitable commercial product; so it is essential for designers to know and understand fibres and fabrics and to choose them according to the latest fashion trends and after assessing their basic characteristics, such as quantity, cost and weight.

Marketing and Enterprise

In order provide its students with a tangible link to the working world and the market, the Accademia della Moda teaches the basic notions of marketing in order to develop competitive success strategies and introduce the concept of enterprise.
