Pattern making I
This teaching is intended to provide the theoretical notions, and methodological techniques that will make the student able to make basic patterns of clothing for women, producing them with the help of the best suited materials to the scale of the project and the different phases of the study.
Styles, history of art and costume I
This course goal is to let students acquire a correct methodology to read and analyse the costume.
The course will overcome the pure descriptiveness and will try to teach students to understand the value and the changes over the centuries considering the historical context in which events occurred. The course will present the evolution of costume from the appearance of the first forms of art during the prehistoric age
until the XV century, first through the analysis of the main Mediterranean civilisations then focusing on the European area.
For every period there will be a reference to the historical context and contemporary artistic manifestations, to witness the evolution of costume.
Fashion design I
This course goal is to let students acquire notions about the body drawing for fashion; the student will be guided in learning drawing techniques of the human figure, first on geometric base, then Freehand, up to the technical drawing for a correct representation of clothing design. This teaching aims to learn the student the methods of representation of a fashion plate, the use of colour and the study of trends, the development of a concept, subject and colors and assortment of clothes, creating a graphic design, illustrating the various phases of the work.
Culture of fashion materials I
This teaching is aimed at the acquisition of fundamentals on the study of materials, with particular reference to the specific purpose of the materials up to the reality of the world of Fashion production.
This teaching is set on reading various types of figurine (skirt, dresses, jackets, pants, etc.). Models should be made using the various notions learned during the course of Pattern making I, simulating controls
and reference points that will serve for the final assembly. In addition, the interpretation of the fashion-plate must be reasoned in its entirety, with internal and external finishings of the piece of clothing.
Costume tailoring techniques I
The course aims to transfer to the student the various techniques for confectioning a basic female garment. Furthermore, theoretical notions are provided on various equipment and materials used for assembling a
Fundamentals of cultural marketing
The course aims to transfer to the learner all the main concepts regarding the marketing from its foundations to the strategic and operational aspects, the policies to be implemented and an in-depth analysis related to
the most interesting economic and applications in social and cultural contexts.
Technical drawing and design
This teaching is divided into two parts: learning the length ratios between the various sizes through the study of measuring tables; and the application of such reports to base models. The student must be able to read any given pattern with realization of a paper pattern in standard size, through sizes development techniques and to keep the image and the proportions of the original pattern on all other sizes.
Styles, history of art and costume II
The course will go over the pure descriptiveness and will try to teach the value and the reasons of the changes over the centuries, considering the historical context in which events occurred. The clothing and its changes will be analyzed from 1500, then the Renaissance, male and female clothing of 1600, century of the armour, the rigidity of the Spanish clothes and the Lutheran austerity, up to the XIX century; century of the wig, passing through the century of revolutions with its subversive fashion and the liberation of the body by a realinstrument of "torture" as the corset to the years of Napoleon and Empire style. The Dandyism. Sports influences on fashion. Charles Frèdèrick Worth, the first designer. For each period there will be a reference to the historical context and contemporary artistic manifestations, to witness the evolution of costume. The cycle of the history of art from the 16th century to the 19th century.
Fashion Design II
Fashion illustration in its various forms is a valuable tool to communicate both technical and aesthetic information. The student will use all his skills to draw designs with the techniques used in fashion illustration, capture a particular look, color and fabrics, create a perfect sketch, sketch poses and attitudes, in order to develop various ideas capable of expressing in a few significative lines the shape and the quality of the fabrics.
This teaching aims to enable the student to move from the phase of sketching to the conception and design of entire collections using vector graphics software, photo editing and photocomposition. The teaching confronts not only designing clothing collections, study and stylization of the figure, accessory design, but also deepens the conception of the logo and packaging.
Costume tailoring techniques II
This teaching aims to transfer the student various techniques of packaging of an elaborate and complex womenswear piece of clothing , as anouterwear, rather than a simple piece of clothing. It provides the student all theoretical and practical information about the assembly techniques and finishing of various types of clothing for women.
Purpose of the course is to provide students with the tools for integrating strategy, marketing, product knowledge and different distribution opportunities with the creative language of fashion. The company will benefit from a competitive results-oriented creativity.
Anthropology of complex societies
The course, entering the field of fashion anthropology, offers the opportunity to study the relationship between the changes of taste and society analyzed in an anthropological key, the impact of scientific progress, which is evident in the choice of materials and its use, characterizing the mechanism of the influence of media on consumers.
Pattern making II
This teaching is divided into two parts: in depth-analysis of the knowledge acquired during the course of pattern making 1, through practical exercises; simulation of corporate work with the creation and minding of various prototypes, which will be applied to the development of sizes. In addition, the student will be able to create a paper pattern of the piece of clothing : sample copy; study of the correction of defects of conformation: patterned and calibrated subjects, with cards of stature.
History of costume
The course aims to bring the student to have a historical knowledge of the main themes on the history of fashion and film history, reading and decoding the representation of fashion in films through the analysis of Visual and auditory elements (signs, symbols and of audiovisual codes) contained within the framing .Upon completion of this course the student will be able to identify the main visual elements concerning the costumes of the film and to interpret meanings and functions in the context of communication and social costume. This course will be taken into account the context of 1900.
Fashion design III
The executive development of a fashion collection, starting from the definition of the collection plan, provides a comprehensive series of activities such as the operational phase of the development of the collection, the making of sketches and the subsequent creation of prototypes. The ultimate goal is to generate collections adhering to market expectations and in line with the needs of the production and of the company.
The course focuses on the techniques of advertising giving particular emphasis on the best practices in use in the Italian market. The teaching will take care of the advertising market and of business communication as a whole. In addition, thematic lectures will be held on particular aspects of advertising, both in meetings with experts and professionals who give evidence of their direct experience.
Digital modeling techniques
This teaching aims to transfer to the student the correct use of the various applications provided by the computer patternmaking system. He/she will be able to create any type of paper pattern thanks to the learning of various instruments.
Electives have total value of 10 credits corresponding at least 2 teachings provided by the Accademiadellamoda, or to external or internal activities whose credits will be recognized by the Academic Council. To allow a balanced distribution of the students, electives are closed classes.
Extra teachings are activities (for a total of 4credits) whose aim is to make the students acquire language and computer skills or relational and telematics ones useful to the inclusion in the job market, as well as activities to facilitate professional choices, through the direct knowledge of the business sector of the course, including, in particular,internships and orientation courses. The internships consist of a period of professional practice and experimentation, through the implementation of individual or group projects in collaboration with other institutes or companies. The duration of the internship is proportionate to the needs of a particular topic covered by a teaching or to the final purposes of the course of studies.
To be admitted to the final exam, the student must have earned 180 credits during the three-year curriculum, including those relating to the final test, English language and computer science . The final test, who has a value of 8 credits, is an artistic theses project, which involves the production of papers or projects and a short essay on a topic specifically assigned by a teacher of the discipline where the student is enrolled.

The course of study for obtaining thethree year diploma in Fashion design, accredited by the Ministry of education, University and research [Ministerial Decree n. 578del 01.07.2013], has as its main goal to ensure the acquisition of specific disciplinary and professional skills through a comprehensive education that includes both expressive-designand technical-operational methodologies, relating to the fields of Graphic Design, pattern making, advertising, Product Design, FashionDesign, supported by advanced CAD systems.
The graduates of the course will be highly qualified professionals, with stylistic and technical skills which can fit into any company of the textile/clothing sector. They will be able to handle both the research and the market production and to follow the entire path of the collection both for the stylistic and modeling part, start a business on their own, to follow the corporate management, the fashion market, to liaise with customers, as well as the artistic direction of large events. In accordance with public or private entities, we will organise internships and traineeships for students who request it.
